Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of coastal navigation, latitude and longitude, and chart plotting.
During this 2 day classroom course you will learn the theory and practice of celestial navigation with the sun and stars using H.O. 249 and the Nautical Almanac. Subjects include care and use of the sextant, sextant error, time, sight reduction, plotting, running fix, and more. Course includes textbook/manual The Celestial Navigation Mystery: Solved by Capt. David Bell, plotting sheets, and work sheets. Students to bring pencils, parallel rulers, and dividers (sextant not required) or NSC can provide an additional cost. 4 student minimum
